Dan Maloit is a single father of three children who keep him on his toes. Dan moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado in 2003. He served in the Colorado Army National Guard in college and then commissioned as an officer on Active Duty after graduation. Dan served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After earning his Green Beret, Dan served as a Detachment Commander in 5th Special Forces Group. He returned to civilian life at the end of 2015 where he has worked in sales, healthcare management, and project management.
Dan's time in the Army continued a long family tradition of military service stretching back several generations. After two deployments to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division, Dan tried out for and earned his Green Beret, serving in the US Army Special Forces. During his time in command of a Special Forces Detachment, Dan deployed to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Qatar. He left the Army Reserves in 2020 as a Major after sixteen years of uniformed service.
Overseas, Dan engaged in multiple operations that disrupted terrorist and insurgent cells from across the spectrum of militancy: Al Qaeda, Shi’a militants, the Taliban, and ISIS. He worked with village elders in Iraq and Afghanistan to understand local issues and find sustainable solutions. He engaged with foreign government officials, local leaders, and various agencies of the American national security establishment.
Dan believes local politics should focus on local issues, that our national discourse is vitriolic and divisive, and has been involved in his community for many years. In 2020 and 2021, He built a broad coalition of parents and advocated for a return to full-time, in-person learning. Additionally, Dan ran for the Colorado Board of Education in 2022, hoping to bring the first voice of a parent with school-aged children still in our public schools.
I’m a single dad of three kids, a former green beret, and I’ve chosen to make Erie my home. I want my kids to be proud that they grew up in Erie. I want my friends from Boulder, Longmont, Firestone, and elsewhere to say “wow. I didn’t know how nice Erie was” after they visit.
I want to make sure every street in Erie is plowed so that our kids can get to school safely and on time. If we have money to fund local politicians’ ambitions and personal charities, then every road should be plowed quickly.
I want our fireworks show to set the standard. Our kids should walk home skipping with excitement instead of wondering “was that the finale…?” Let’s light the sky up every 4th, show Colorado that Erie is proud to be an American town, and give Boulder firework envy.
I want to clean up our town budget to fund projects that matter to everyone.
Some of my concerns:
Every road in Erie is plowed within at least 12-hours of appreciable snowfall, at least every 12-hours thereafter while snow falls, and within 12-hours of the final snowflake.
A bigger, longer, and dazzling fireworks show to celebrate our Independence Day.
A town budget that is efficient and focuses on making our town functional and safe for everyone.
Streets and paths safe enough for our kids to explore our amazing open spaces and walk downtown for ice cream.
I will work with our industry partners to improve cellular reception for all of Erie. Only 27% of Colorado adults have a landline, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Beyond the convenience of cell phone coverage, many of our citizens need reliable cell phone coverage to work from home and to reach emergency services! It's time for us to find and implement solutions to this long running problem in Erie.
